What happens in your Review?

The Review Meeting will look at what the arrangements are for your care and decide any changes for the future.

Who goes?
Your Review Meeting is about YOU and YOUR FUTURE. You should be there so that you can say what you would like to happen. We invite other people involved in looking after you to attend such as:

  • Your parents.
  • Your carers.
  • Your social worker and
  • Sometimes other people attend such as your teacher and mentor if they can help you or your family.

Can anyone else go?
If you want, you can take someone like an advocate to your Review who will speak on your behalf. Should you wish, you can contact an organisation called Voice, which will provide an advocate for children and young people, not only for Reviews, but at any other time that you may wish for someone to help you speak with Children's Services.

VOICE - Freefone: 0808 800 5792 or email: help@voiceyp.org

If you need help with translation or you have a disability you can have an interpreter or signer to help you.

When are Reviews held?

Your Review will be held:

  • Within one month of you being looked after.
  • The next one would be held within three months and
  • Then every six months or earlier if required.

Why must Children's Services hold regular Review meetings?
When social workers get involved in looking after you they have to write down everything that they will do to help you in your Care Plan. Your Review is to make sure that your Care Plan is the best possible way of meeting your needs.

  • To make sure that the plans made for you are being carried out.
  • To decide if the plans need to be changed.
  • To make new plans for the future.

What do young people say?

"Its for our benefit. They keep us inormed about everything"

From six years back, I got told I'm too quiet in my reviews so from then...that's what changed me really. Ever since then, I've been well ok, if I'm gonna get heard, I'm gonna get heard and you are going to answer my questions, so I'm going to keep asking the same questions till you find me the answer!"

"It's difficult to have your say and interrupt adults and remembering what to say is sometimes hard. But you have to, cause they are making decisions about your life"
