Children and young people

If you are worried about someone seeing that you have read these pages then see our 'safe surfing' section which will help you hide your visit from anyone that might look.

Not many adults harm children, and even fewer do it on purpose. When it does happen it's more likely that families need help, not be made to move away from each other, so do not be scared that you will be taken away if you tell anyone you think something is happening to you. Also, if you are being abused you should never feel ashamed or embarrassed to tell anyone.

There are many people you can talk to; a teacher, doctor, or family member. If you want to talk anonymously (in secret) then there are several phonelines you can call, like Childline. See our 'what to do if you are worried section' for more contacts.

Children and Young People's Plan 2011-2015

The Children and Young People's Plan, the "CYPP", is the single strategic plan for the Partnership. It doesn't include every piece of work going on in the borough; instead it focuses on those areas where the partners must work together to improve outcomes for children and young people.

We are keen to ensure that the CYPP reflects the views of local children and young people, their families and all the people working with them across the borough.

You can read and download copies of the full CYPP or Executive Summary by clicking here: Children and Young People's Plan 2011-2015

Youths - a handbook for young people

'Youths' is a handbook to help you make the right decision for yourself. It doesn't have all the answers and doesn't tell you what to do, but it's got straightforward advice to help you through many situations young people have to deal with every day.

This handbook will guide you through dealing with tough situations and tricky decisions, but remember some of it's new territory for the adults too! In each section and at the end of the handbook there is a list of local organisations that can offer advice and support to you.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in the consultation, development and creation of this handbook. In particular we'd like to thank all the young people gave their views and comments and helped in creating 'the look' and design of the front page. Without all your input, the creation of this handbook would not have been possible. Many thanks!
