Children with DisabilitiesDisability affects about 15% of people in the UK at some time in their lives. The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) protects disabled children and young people from discrimination. The DDA describes a person as disabled if he/she has a physical or mental impairment, which has a substantial, long term and adverse effect on the person's ability to carry out normal day to day activities. If you are disabled, you and your parents/carers are not alone. Your parents/carers may be entitled to receive some financial help to support them in caring for you. There are also many other extra services and support available for you and your parents/carers. The Children's Services in Wandsworth have a dedicated social work team that specialise in working with and supporting children with disabilities and their families.
